you can have a sentimental feeling about Christmas and completely miss the significance, I’ve been falling in love with the Christmas story all over again this season because really it’s about faith and so it’s so much more than just Jesus came so you don’t have to go to hell.
Pastor Steven Furtick teaches us that the Christmas story It’s so much more than scented candles, it’s so much more than that, the significance of Christmas is often missed by our need, but listen it’s complete chaos Mary and Joseph, the astrologers who aren’t even religious people, they’re the ones that are bringing the gifts.
Matthew chapter 2 verse 13 says, when they had gone, , an angel of the lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, it said this get up take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him, so he got up took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod and so was fulfilled what the lord had said through the prophet, out of Egypt.
The Christmas story completely flips the script on what we think is and isn’t significant if you read the Christmas story and only see objects, you have missed the intention of Christmas, if you see the Christmas story and only think of angels wings you have missed the message of Christmas, if you read the Christmas story and only think about what it was like to be Joseph you’ve missed the message of Christmas because the message is meant to go much deeper than history, it is meant to give you significance for the areas in your life that may not seem significant. The significance of the Christmas story is faith, it tells us about the faith Mary and Joseph had through out the period of the birth of Christ, how they left their home, and how they ran whenever the angels spoke to Joseph in dreams warning them about danger and they will have to leave everything and flee, we must always have faith in God at all points in our lives, even when it seems very difficult.
