Spiritually Dead Church

I love the church. And that’s why I’m so concerned about it. The church is supposed to be the people of God, living out the life of Jesus and growing together in Christ. But too often, it’s become a place where Christians are spiritually dead or a shell of its former self. In this article, we’ll take a look at four reasons why many churches are spiritually dead today:

Spiritually Dead Church

Churchians, not Christians.

Churchians are Christians in name only. They may be outwardly religious, but they do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As a result, their lives are not changed and they are not transformed by the power of God’s Word. They often worship in church buildings but they do not know or love God. This is why we need to be careful that our actions match up with what we say we believe – or else people will think we’re just going through the motions!

Wrong leadership.

You’re doing all the right things. You have a beautiful building, an outstanding worship team, and the best casseroles in town. But none of it matters if you have wrong leaders who do not lead spiritually.

Wrong leaders come in many forms:

  • Wrong leaders with wrong motives: These are people who think they are leading spiritually but only want power and prestige for themselves. They may actually be very good at ministry—but they do not love God above all else (Matthew 6:33).
  • Wrong leaders with wrong values: These are people who think they are leading spiritually but their values don’t match up with Scripture when it comes to leadership roles (1 Timothy 3:1-7). A church leader should be married and have no more than two children (Titus 1). A pastor should be a man whose family does not cause division within the church (1 Timothy 3:4-5). A deacon must be “not younger than 18 years old or older than 60 years old” (Philippians 1:1; see also 1 Timothy 3:8-13)

False teachings and doctrines.

False teachings and doctrines lead to false disciples, who don’t have a relationship with Jesus. They end up being spiritually dead, because they’re not following the Lord and He’s not leading them. They’re just following their own ways instead of God’s ways.

False teachings also lead to false Christians—people who claim to be followers of Christ but aren’t really following Him. They’ll say they do, but they don’t act like it!

And false doctrines can even cause a church or group of churches to become spiritually dead because the leadership isn’t walking in truth and therefore doesn’t know how God wants things done at all times!

In the Gospel of John, it says that faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. Faith is what makes something real to you even though it isn’t physically present.

We need faith in order to live a life that pleases God. Faith helps us believe what God has said about us and His plan for our lives, which gives us hope and assurance! Without faith, we would never be able to do anything worthwhile in life because we wouldn’t know if it would pay off or not!

In Joel Osteen’s book “Your Best Life Now”, he talks about having a list of goals in your heart so that when people ask you what your goals are they can see exactly where your heart is focused on right now instead of trying to figure out what you might want outta life someday down the road…that’s why writing down those goals each year before New Years Day helps keep them fresh in mind throughout each passing year until they’re achieved (if ever)….but also having something written down gives me an idea as well because sometimes when I’m having trouble sleeping at night I’ll look back over my list from last year just so there will be some sort of reminder there waiting for me whenever I get up next morning….and if nothing else maybe sharing mine with others might inspire someone else too 🙂
