    Smokie Norful was born on the 31st of October 1975 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, United States, to Reverend W.R. Norful and Teresa Norful. He grew up in Oklahoma and went to Jack Robey Junior High and Pine Blutt High School.

    Smokie Norful gained immense knowledge of music while growing up and equally picked different melodies on the piano. Despite his interest in music, he decided to study history at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

    After that, he worked as a history instructor before going to Chicago to study for a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Theological Seminary.
