Prayer to overcome temptation
Lord God,
We come before you today humbly asking for your help, guidance, and protection. We ask that you cleanse us of any wrong thinking or unrighteousness, and that you help us to find strength in you to overcome temptation.
Throughout our lives, we are faced with temptations to stray from the path you have set for us. We know that temptation can be a powerful force and that it can have a strong influence on our thoughts and actions.
But we trust in your power, Lord. We know you are bigger and stronger than any temptation we may face. We ask that you help us to stay focused on your Word and on the truth of your promises. Help us to keep our eyes on you and to seek your will for our lives.
We understand that it is only through your grace that we can be victorious over temptation. So we ask for your grace, Lord. Please surround us with your love and your strength and fill us with your peace.
Guide us as we make decisions that honor you. Help us to remain strong and steadfast in you, no matter what. Show us the path of righteousness and lead us away from temptation.
We also ask that you protect us from the lies and deceptions of the enemy, who seek to draw us away from you. Grant us the discernment to recognize his tactics, and the courage to stand firm in the face of temptation.
We thank you for all you have done for us, Lord. We are so grateful for your love, grace, and mercy. We pray that you would continue to bless us and give us the strength to overcome any temptation we may face.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
Relevenat Bible Verses for avoiding temptation
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:14-15
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” Galatians 5:16-17.
