Section: Obedience is not always easy.

This section should be italicized and have blockquotes in it, which are cited at the end of the section in the following format:

Blockquote: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” Ecclesiastes 9:10a (NIV)

Sometimes obeying God can be challenging. Take Peter for instance who was commanded by Jesus to walk on water yet took his eyes off Jesus and sank. What about Joshua who had to fight a battle that seemed impossible but obeyed God when He said “See! I have delivered Jericho into your hands”? We cannot grow in our relationship with God unless we obey Him. It is vital for us to be obedient if we want to receive the promises of God over our lives and even though it may seem hard we must remember that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). A great example of this can be seen through King Saul who sacrificed a burnt offering because he was waiting on Samuel but Samuel was delayed so Saul went ahead and offered up the sacrifice himself instead of waiting which resulted in him losing his kingdom (1 Samuel 13). When we obey what God tells us to do there will always be blessings that come our way as a result. We must obey His voice and keep His commands by remembering what He has done for us because He is good and His love endures forever. We can find strength in knowing that when we fail at obeying God, He will forgive us if we repent, just like He did with Peter when he failed at walking on water (Matthew 14). The next time you are faced with an opportunity to obey or disobey the Lord let these Powerful Prayers For Obedience

    Powerful Prayers For Obedience

    1. Pray to be taught obedience

    Pray to be taught obedience.

    • “Teach me, O LORD, the way of your rules; I will keep it to the end.” [Psalm 119:33]
    • “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with sighing.” [Hebrews 13:17]
    • “Children obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.” [Colossians 3:20]

    2. Pray to be humbled in obedience

As you embark on this prayer journey, remember that obedience is one of the most powerful ways to be humbled. It is also a sign of your faith and love for God, as well as your trust in him. To obey means that you have surrendered yourself completely to the will of God, which is not easy for anyone. It requires discipline, patience, and perseverance—all qualities that make us more like Christ.

    3. Pray to have the guidance of God’s Spirit

    • Pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13 tells us we are “members of his body,” and Ephesians 1:13 says all believers have been “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit who is the down payment of our inheritance.” Ephesians 5:18–21 commands us to “be not drunk with wine, but be filled with the Spirit.” The Greek word used here is pneuma which means spirit or breath or wind (as in Acts 2:2). So Paul is saying that when you’re filled with His breath—His life—you can live out His commandments and reject temptation!

    4. Pray to be merciful and compassionate

Mercy is a quality of God’s character. It is an act of God or the result of His character. This means that when you think about mercy, you are thinking about how God does things and why He does them.

Mercy is an attribute of God because it describes His actions and defines who He is as a person. Mercy has been defined as “the will to avoid causing pain or suffering.” When we pray for mercy, we are asking God to be kind and compassionate toward us, because He already is those things!

    5. Pray for a forgiving heart

Forgiveness is a gift from God. It is also a choice, one that every person must make. Forgiveness is a process. It takes time to build up trust again with the one you’ve forgiven and for both of you to be able to move on from what happened in the past. Forgiveness washes away our sins and reminds us not only that Christ has already paid for them, but also that he died so we could have peace with God (Romans 5:1-2). When we forgive others, we are making room for new beginnings and breaking free from the chains of bitterness and pain (Ephesians 4:31-32).

Forgiveness is a promise; an act where we let go of our past hurts so that they no longer control us or dictate our future actions (Isaiah 43:18; Matthew 6:14-15). Forgiving yourself as well as others will set you free from guilt over your own sinfulness while enabling you to live confidently knowing there’s nothing holding back your relationship with God (Romans 8:1).

Forgiveness is letting go of someone who has hurt me in any way – physically, emotionally, or spiritually – by choosing not to hold onto anger anymore

    6. Pray for a pure heart

We must pray for hearts that are pure before God and His Word. Our hearts must be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, who is perfect in everything He does (Hebrews 4:15; 1 John 3:1). We should pray that we would be able to see what others cannot see so that they may come to know the truth themselves (John 17:17).

We should also ask the Lord to give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation within our hearts so that we can know Him better each day (Ephesians 1:17-18). Pray this prayer out loud right now—we need a fresh word from God every day!

    7. Pray for a loving heart

The Bible says that love is the greatest fruit of the Spirit. This means it’s a choice you can make, even when it feels like you’re not feeling loved.

The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians: “Be imitators of God as beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1). To be an imitator of someone or something means to imitate them in their behavior, attitudes, and mannerisms. It also means to follow in their footsteps; this is why we say “you cannot walk in my shoes”.

This verse tells us that we should imitate God because He loves us. We will never feel loved by Him if we do not know how much He loves us first! When we are able to see His love for us through our prayers for obedience then everything else will fall into place!

    8. Lord help us be obedient like Jesus

Jesus was obedient to God’s will. He told the disciples to go out into all the world and preach, and through them, God would spread His message. When they returned with thousands of new believers, Jesus did not rebuke them for failing to obey Him at this time. He said instead: “It is not you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you” (Matthew 10:20).

Jesus was obedient to the Father. In John 5:19, Jesus said: “The Son can do nothing on his own; he does only what he sees his Father doing…I honor my Father by obeying him every day in everything I say or do — even if it seems insignificant or silly! This means being humble as a child before an old man who has much experience and wisdom under his belt! It also means living out each day as though it were my last one here on earth because I know that someday soon I’m going away forever…and then I’ll meet all those friends from high school who didn’t want anything else but peace between all nations so there wouldn’t be any war anymore ever again!”

Jesus was obedient to Holy Spirit who helped him understand more about himself than anyone else could ever tell me about me – including me! The Holy Spirit gave him strength & courage when needed most so we could follow suit

    Closing

There is nothing better than the word of God. His word brings hope, healing, and joy to our lives. We can turn to the Lord because He is a faithful and loving God who listens intently to his children. We can pray these scriptures over our children and loved ones so that they will grow in the grace of Jesus Christ. The Spirit of God will guide us as we pray for obedience for those we love!
