Pastor Jabin Chavez Sermons 10 September 2021 My Generosity – We are being invited to a generous life. by being generous we honour Jesus. Just like when Mary used an expensive jar of oil to wipe Jesus’s feet, and Judas rebuked her saying she should have sold the oil and donated the money to the church. Jesus said to him leave her be, for she is preparing me for my death. Jesus validated her offering. MATTHEW 6 VS. 21 says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”.
we are made to understand that we cannot love without giving generously, it is possible to give without loving, but it is not possible to love without generosity. we give through the church to Jesus, thats why giving to the church is supernatural, its not just giving to a random person. Hebrews 7 VS. 8 says “And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.” this means that mortal men receive tithes like our priests and pastors, and it is witnessed in heaven.
Our generosity moves Jesus, it doesn’t matter if its the poor or the church, Jesus said what so ever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me.
our generosity stretches our faith, giving is not easy sometimes we give in tears, sometimes its painful or hard to give, also, giving requires faith because every time you want to give, you think of things you can do with the money hence we are tempted to not give.
we are encouraged to see giving as sowing for no farmer has ever thrown a seed in the ground and thought he lost it. he has patience and faith. every time we give we have 2 voices speak one tries to delegitimises our offering and makes us feel like we have wasted that offering, this other voice never talks to us when we are purchasing irrelevant things. The second voice which is stronger and the voice of the lord rebukes the devourer for our sake.
Let us continue to give, for it is in giving that we receive.
