THEME: The Mercy Of God (II)

SCRIPTURE: – Romans 9:16 “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”

Jesus was passing through Jericho. It was the last time he would travel that road before His crucifixion. This was a great opportunity for everyone in that environment to receive their long-awaited miracle from Jesus, the Miracle Worker. As usual a multitude followed and thronged Jesus. However, only Bartimaeus succeeded in getting Jesus’ attention and his desired miracle. What was Bartimaeus key? He cried to Jesus for mercy! His cry was not ignored. Jesus stood still, suspended all other things and attended to the one in the multitude who cried for mercy. Why? God does not ignore the cry for mercy that comes from a penitent heart and contrite spirit.

Mercy is a game-changer and an enabler of destiny. Apostle Paul said, “I am what I am by the mercy of God.” The mercy of God located Saul of Tarsus, the enemy and persecutor of the Church and converted him to a great apostle and builder of God’s Kingdom. The one who was travelling on an expressway to hell was suddenly interrupted by heaven and relocated to heaven’s way. Ruth and Orpah had the same opportunity to choose the God of Israel. It was Ruth that obtained God’s mercy and chose right. Orpah returned to idolatry and was never heard of again. By mercy, God made Ruth a direct ancestor of Jesus Christ. I pray that God’s mercy will locate you and change your story to glory today, in the name of Jesus.

God said, “Jacob have I loved; Esau have I hated” (Romans 9:13). The twin brothers God referred to here were still in their mother’s womb. They had not committed any sin yet? What then is responsible for God’s preference for Jacob? Divine mercy and election! You will also recall that Peter denied Jesus three times. Yet, he became a foremost apostle of Pentecost because he received Christ’s mercy and pardon. When the devil sought to sift him as wheat, Jesus discerned the evil plan and prayed for Peter. In the end Peter’s faith did not fail and he did not go back from following the Lord. Again, James was killed by Herod, but when he tried to kill Peter, God sent His angel to deliver his servant. That was divine mercy at work.

    PRAYER POINTS:

    MORNING

    1. Father, let Your mercy change my story as it did Bartimaeus, in the name of Jesus.
    2. Father, let Your mercy orchestrate a turning point in my life as it did for Paul of Tarsus, in the name of Jesus.
    3. O God, let Your mercy and grace erase evil in my past and give me a glorious future and eternity, in the name of Jesus.

    EVENING

    1. I receive the grace of divine election, by the power in the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
    2. Father, as Your mercy intervened and brought Peter out of Herod’s incarceration and death sentence, let Your mercy save me, in the name of Jesus.
    3. O God, do not ignore my cry for mercy nor withraw Your love from me, in the name of Jesus.
    4. I declare that goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, in the name of Jesus.
