THEME: The Mercy Of God (I)

SCRIPTURE: – Psalms 136:1b “For he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

The mercy of God is indispensable in the life and journey of any believer who wants to finish well. Without the mercy of God, no one can be free from the consequences of sin and ancestral deficits. Without mercy, many destinies that the enemy has captured will not be set free. Mercy ensures that you do not get the judgement or punishment you deserve. Mercy justifies and gets for you what others who appear qualified desire but do not get.

Two persons went to the temple to pray. One kept justifying himself, “I do this, I do that, therefore I deserve this and that.” He set exams for himself, marked it and announced his score. Things don’t work like that in God’s Kingdom. The other person said, “I am not perfect. I need your mercy, O Lord.” The Bible says that the latter went justified, not the former. I pray that God’s mercy will justify and qualify you, in the name of Jesus.

In the midst of a crowd, mercy located Zaccheaus. Though he was out of view to men, Jesus saw him on the tree and announced that He would come to Zaccheaus’ house. The man, Zaccheaus, was a tax collector and had shortchanged many people, but he had a contrite and repentant heart. He made restitution.

Obed-edom was another man that experienced the mercy of God. Uzzah, the driver of the carriage transporting the Ark of Covenant had touched the ark and got killed. David decided to send the ark to someone’s house and he decided on Obed-edom. The man became superbly wealthy overnight because of the ark of covenant he housed.

Solomon was not a legitimate child but mercy found and preferred him. He was chosen ahead of other sons of David to ascend the throne as his father’s successor. The circumstances of how his mother met his father and the sins they committed before he was born did not count. Mercy triumphed over judgement for Solomon.

Beloved, apart from the mercy of God, there is no other hope for mankind. God blesses us with new grace and mercy everyday. God’s mercy is bigger than your mistakes. Ask for God’s mercy everyday. God is mercy!
