The theme for MFM Daily Devotional November 9 2022 is ”Effective Delegation: Develop Your Character (I)”.
Here is today’s MFM daily devotional designed for your today’s spiritual refreshment. Kindly read today’s teaching by Dr DK Olukoya, meditate on the word of God and endeavour to act in accordance with them. As you start your day with God through his word, may he go before you to perfect all you have to do today.
SCRIPTURE: “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18
Character is a major determinant of whether a person succeeds or fails in life or whether a person becomes a victor or a villain. Character is everything. It is therefore important that every individual invests quality time and attention in the development of his character. Failure to do this has resulted in character faws, which eventually became the undoing of many and caused their fall from grace to grass.
Some relevant examples from the Bible and history will help to establish this truth. First, the story of Queen Vashti comes to mind. She was the first lady to a king, whose kingdom was so big and influential with numerous provinces under his control. She had honour, authority and fame. However, she lacked the essential ingredient to sustain all these: character. One day, the king had a function that was well attended by dignitaries from far and wide. In the course of their funfair, the king sent for Queen Vashti to come and show herself to his guests. Queen Vashti refused to honour her husband’s invitation. Perhaps the king sent more than one invitation to her, but she did not show up. That was a big embarrassment to the king, a breach of palace protocol and an insult to the throne. Vashti’s misbehaviour showed she had character disorder: pride, rudeness and impatience. This led to her tragic fall.
King Ahauserus’ subjects and officials were equally embarrassed; they did not hide their disappointment in Queen Vashti. They told the king that if he did not do something drastic to correct Queen Vashti’s misbehaviour, other women and wives would be rude and disobedient to their husbands and elders, thus destroying the moral fabrics and peace of their homes and society. The king accepted their advice, deposed and banished Queen Vashti and sought for a new queen with godly character.
Queen Vashti could have been tired due to overwork for supervising the event. She could even be sick. Yet none of these reasons could justify her uncouth and uncivilised snobbing of the king. She could have given her reasons in a civilised way. She truly lacked character.
Beloved, do you have any character defect in your life? Identity it and pray it out of your life so it does not cause you any ruin.
