THEME: -Isaiah 36:4 “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: ‘What confidence is this in which you trust?”

Hezekiah was a righteous king living in troubled times. When he came to power in Jerusalem, he tore down all the pagan altars to false gods, reinstated the reading of the Torah, and reestablished the Sabbath. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

The leader of the Assyrian army, King Sennacherib, and his massive army set their sights on Jerusalem. Their military campaigns had wreaked havoc – burning, pillaging, and murdering across the countryside. The people of Jerusalem trembled at the sound of Sennacherib’s name as he mocked the God they served and vowed certain destruction.

Beyond the walls of Jerusalem, the beloved hills were alight with the campfires of the soldiers plotting the day that they would breach her walls and do their worst. King Hezekiah tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and ashes.

Into his panic and fear, the prophet Isaiah spoke a word that changed Hezekiah’s perspective. This watchman did not point to the danger; he pointed to the Savior and Jerusalem’s sure deliverance.

No matter what trouble surrounds you today, no matter the dread that pierces your soul, know that the war has been won before the battle even begins. We serve a God Who delivers us from the hands of every enemy. He is our confidence.

    Today’s Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. The Lord is a shield to all who trust in Him. May He be your confidence in the day of trouble.
