Pastor jerry in today’s devotional teaches us that You have to remain focused on what God’s Word says about you and your circumstances because Satan will try everything he can think of to get you to lose focus on God’s promises for your life, but don’t. Stay focused by staying in His Word.
Jerry Savelle Daily Devotional May 24 2023 Topic: STEPS TO RENEWING YOUR MIND
The book of Proverbs provides us with some basic, God-given instruction on renewing our minds. Proverbs 4:20-22 in the Amplified Bible says: “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.”
So, the first step to renewing your mind is: Attend to the Word
“My son, attend to my words…” In the literal Hebrew “attend” means to be completely devoted to. You must get to the point that you cannot get enough of them. When this happens, then it’s no longer a chore or a religious duty to read the Word. It becomes a desire, a craving. God wants you and I to become completely devoted to His Word. This kind of commitment to the Word of God, obviously, will drastically change your way of thinking.
Step #2: Focus on God’s Word
“Let them not depart from your sight.”
You have to remain focused on what God’s Word says about you and your circumstances. Satan will try everything he can think of to get you to lose focus on God’s promises for your life, but don’t. Stay focused by staying in His Word.
Step #3: Meditate the Word
“…keep them in the center of your heart.”
In order to keep something in the center of your heart, you have to meditate upon it. Meditation did not come from some Eastern religion. Meditation came from God. Meditation is nothing more than thinking and pondering on God’s Word. It’s maintaining God’s Word in your thought life.
Philippians 4:8 tells us what we should be thinking about: “Whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].” (Amplified)
Meditating on the Word of God means that you are filling your mind with the Word when you wake up; you guard what comes into your mind throughout the day; and you go to bed thinking what the Word says. It’s time to begin treating God’s Word as though it were something very valuable and precious. Start today by attending to, focusing on, and meditating His Word!
