Dr. Wesley is seen as one of the most prophetic voices of justice and grace in the history of Alfred Street Baptist Church.
Dr. Wesley is the product of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools . He graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of science in biomedical and electrical engineering.
Dr. Wesley answered to the call of God while in medical school and thus quit his journey to a medical career to attend seminary at the Boston University School of Theology where he was a Martin Luther King, Jr. scholar and there, he graduated in biblical studies and African American religious history. He proceeded and acquired his doctor of ministry in preaching from Northern Baptist Seminary.

He used this period of time to decompress, see a therapist who helped him sleep better and get more hours of sleep than the four hours he was previously getting, he started a diet, he learnt how to stay off social media and manage time with his phone appropriately., and then he bounced back. He was supposed to return on the Easter Sunday of 2021, but then the lock down started but nonetheless he recorded his sermons for the church and shared it with them through the churches channel
