How To Talk To God And Hear Him

I have always been convinced that to know how to talk to God and hear His voice is the most essential thing in our walk with Him. The Bible says, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Jude 1:20-21 (NKJV)

How To Talk To God And Hear Him

The word “praying” here is actually a translation from a Greek word meaning “dividing” or “discussing.” The Amplified Bible renders it as “constantly caring in prayer.” This means that we carry on two-way discussions with God through prayer and through His Word. How important is communication with Him? It’s so important that even when we come up against times of struggle and difficulty, we should be able to see them as opportunities for further growth instead of letting them cause us to panic or become fearful. Communication with God should not only be something we do when things are going well but also an exercise we practice every day so that our faith will grow stronger and stronger. In this post I would like to share five key points about talking to God which may help you have more understanding about hearing from Him:

First, it is important to realize that we are actually created in the image of God and that God has placed in us a spirit that longs to communicate with Him.

First, it is important to realize that we are actually created in the image of God and that God has placed in us a spirit that longs to communicate with Him. We can have fellowship with Him, but we cannot be like Him or have what He has without first having a relationship with Him. Our spirit was created by God and therefore wants to communicate with Him.

Second, there are many different ways of communicating with God: through prayer; through reading His Word (the Bible); through worshiping; through meditation on Scripture; etc., but none of these methods will be effective unless you first know how to talk to God and hear Him speak back! You need this skill if your going to get into any kind of relationship at all!

Second, God created us to have fellowship with Him through communication.

God created us with a desire to have fellowship with Him through communication. You see, God is not an impersonal force that sits in heaven and just overlooks what’s going on down here. He wants to have a relationship with you, and he has made it possible for you to talk to Him through prayer.

When we read the Bible, we find out how much Jesus wanted us to pray. In fact, Jesus said that if we are his disciples (students) then we should pray just as He taught his disciples: “And when you pray do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.” Matthew 6:5-6

The apostle Paul also encouraged Christians regarding prayer: “Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

3rd , He wants you to hear His voice.

God wants you to hear His voice.

The Bible says in Psalm 32:8-9, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle or they will not come near you.” This means God longs for us to communicate with Him. He wants us to talk to Him honestly, openly and often!

Fourth, knowing what God’s Word says about hearing from God is vital, as well as the importance of prayer and worship in hearing from the Lord.

Fourth, knowing what God’s Word says about hearing from God is vital, as well as the importance of prayer and worship in hearing from the Lord.

  • Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:14-15: “But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.”
  • John wrote in 1 John 2:27: “But he who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason why your lawless deeds are revealed is that at last your sins have been revealed even to heaven.”
  • James wrote in James 1:22-25: “Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.”

Fifth, faith is key when it comes to hearing from the Lord.

If you’re looking to hear from God, faith is a key component. Faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). It is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). And it is also described as “the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
