Christians today live in a world of uncertainty. The Holy Spirit is a topic that many believers avoid because they either don’t understand the person, work, and power of the Godhead or they are unsure if He really exists. Here you’ll find answers to these questions and more.
The Holy Spirit is one of the three persons that make up the Trinity; the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Jesus sent His followers to take His place by spreading The Word on Earth after returning to Heaven (John 16:7; Acts 1:8). We will look at who the Holy Spirit is as well as what He does in our lives before we examine some of His characteristics that are evident in those who have allowed Him to indwell their hearts.
How To Know If The Holy Spirit Is In You
Do You Have the Holy Spirit?
Do you have the Holy Spirit? The question may seem silly at first, but it’s one that should be asked by every person who wants to know God and experience His power in their lives. The Bible says that no man can call Jesus a Savior without the Holy Spirit:
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come (John 16:13-14).
The Bible also says that if we don’t have the Holy Spirit living inside us then we are “dead in our trespasses and sins”…and dead people don’t live forever! How do you get this life-giving gift? It’s simple—you invite Him into your heart by asking Jesus to forgive your sins as He promised in His Word (John 3:16). Once He’s given this free gift of salvation through faith alone in Christ alone…you’re changed forever!
You are a Witness to the Gospel
If you are a Christian, you can testify to the gospel. You are a Witness to the Gospel.
You can testify of Christ’s death and resurrection, but if you have not received the Holy Spirit then your testimony will be that of a mere human being. It is only when one receives the gift of God’s Holy Spirit that they become a witness to their message. The Bible says in Acts 2:38 “Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
What is the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit?
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is when He lives inside of us. It is when He lives in our hearts and minds, guiding us and helping us to become better people.
The Holy Spirit has many names: The Comforter, Counselor, Paraclete (meaning one who comes alongside or near to), Helper (the Greek word used here means “one who helps”) and Advocate (which literally means someone who pleads on behalf of another).
We Gain the Holy Spirit at Salvation.
When we are born again, we receive the Holy Spirit. We do not have to ask for the Holy Spirit to come into our lives; He comes automatically when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
We receive the same thing at salvation that all believers in Christ receive: The Holy Spirit (John 20:22). This means that you were born again with God’s Spirit living inside of you! If this is your first time accepting Jesus Christ as Savior, then congratulations! You are now a child of God and have His life in you.
The Holy Spirit Gives us Spiritual Gifts at Salvation.
The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts at salvation to serve others, the body of Christ and help us grow in Christ. In addition to this, we also have an anointing that comes with each gift. For example: if you have been given a gift of teaching, your anointing will be an additional blessing that you can use while teaching or preaching the Word of God. Thus, giving God glory through your ministry, which is one way you are able to serve others.
The Holy Spirit Empowers Us For Ministry.
The Holy Spirit empowers us for ministry. He gives us the power to overcome sin and live in obedience to God. The Holy Spirit helps us share the Good News of salvation with others, giving us boldness and wisdom so that we can share our testimony about what God has done in our lives.
The Holy Spirit also helps us be witnesses of God’s love for people who are hurting or sick. He gives us comfort and peace during difficult times, so that we can be strong when others need help.
“The purpose of God in giving us His own presence in our hearts could be only one thing: to make us like His Son.” – Oswald Chambers
The purpose of God in giving us His own presence in our hearts could be only one thing: to make us like His Son. We have a divine nature and character, but we live in human bodies and must express that character through the same limited life that we all share. But through that same Spirit who is within you, you can be perfected day by day until your life is exactly like Jesus Christ’s (Philippians 3:10).
A person’s walk with God is not determined by his or her church attendance or confession of faith; it’s determined by how much he or she allows the Holy Spirit of God to mold their heart and mind according to the image of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18). The essence of Christianity is not simply believing certain truths about Jesus—it’s becoming more like Him every day!
“We are not only to be witnesses, we are to be witnesses of the risen Christ now. Our purpose is not simply to explain away our experience, but to make a witness in such a way that people will see Jesus.” – Oswald Chambers
If you have these evidences in your life it is good evidence that you have been born again by the Holy Spirit and are made alive with Christ. If you do not have these evidences start praying for them and asking God to help you seek Him with all your heart so that He may be found.
