Hebrews 3 Devotional

Hebrews 3:1-6 is a great reminder that Jesus is the ultimate source of our salvation. He has fulfilled every prophecy, fulfilled every requirement of the law, and proved Himself faithful to God over and over again. We need not fear His judgment because there’s nothing that we can do on our own to merit salvation from His holy wrath—it’s all been done for us by Christ!

    Hebrews 3 Devotional

    1. Hebrews 3:1

    Hebrews 3:1

“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Hebrews 3:1-2 tells us that we’re to look at the things that are above. So what does this mean? How do we do it? The writer goes on to answer these questions for us by telling us that when we put our mind’s eye on what is above (heavenly places), then it will be impossible for sin to have any control over our lives!

    2. Hebrews 3:12-13

Jesus is the author of faith. Hebrews 3:12 says that Jesus is the creator of faith, which means He gives it to us. He is our source of faith, and we can’t do anything without His help. The Bible tells us that “without faith, it’s impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). We need Jesus’ power in order to have genuine faith in Him—he’s the one who plants it in our hearts so that we’ll have enough strength to keep going when times get tough!

Jesus is the pioneer of faith. Hebrews 3:14 says that Jesus led others into their inheritance as their forerunner, or guide through rough terrain ahead of them so they wouldn’t fall behind or lose hope along the way while they were trying to get there themselves.”

    3. Hebrews 3:4

The third chapter of Hebrews concludes with a beautiful promise: “For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.” (Hebrews 5:1)

Jesus Christ is the perfect High Priest who took upon Himself all our sins so that we could be forgiven and live eternally with Him. He is the only way to God (John 14:6).

The writer of Hebrews goes on to say: “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood [Heb 7] For such a high priest became us [Heb 7] Who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners [Hb 7], And made higher than the heavens…” (Hebrews 7:24-26)

    4. Hebrews 3:5

The cloud of witnesses speaks to the fact that we are not alone in our journey. In Hebrews 3:1-2, I noted that this passage is a reminder to us that we are not alone in our Christian walk; it reminds us that the Holy Spirit lives within us and can help guide our lives. But the cloud of witnesses serves as an additional reminder that there is more than just God with us as we walk forward on this journey. Others have walked this path before us, and they look on as we do so today.

In Hebrews 12:1-2, Paul says: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us… Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who for the joy set before him endured [suffering],[9]n 20 kept going even when he was tempted (vs 1 & 2).” He quotes from Psalm 16:11-12 which speaks about how David saw himself as part of a group or community with others who suffered greatly at times but also rejoiced in their faithfulness to God.[10] That community served as encouragement for him during his trials because he knew they were cheering him on even though they were not physically present.[11] You can be sure your own work will have its own unique challenges and joys too!

    5. Hebrews 3:6-7

Hebrews 3:6-7 says, “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Seeing it is appointed unto men once to die…”

Notice that God’s Word is sharper than any two-edged sword. When you study God’s Word, it will cut through sin like a knife slicing through butter. The word of God is life because it gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ (John 6:53). Also notice in Hebrews 4:12 that “The word of God is living and active.” Hebrews 4:12 means that God’s Word has no expiration date on its effectiveness because it continues to be alive today! As Christians who have been born again by faith in Jesus Christ (John 1:12), we have been given a new spirit inside us so that our thoughts and intents can now be discerned by others (1 Corinthians 2:14).

    6. Hebrews 3:8

To be sure, Jesus is the guarantor of a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22). He is the mediator of a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6). He’s also the high priest of a better covenant (Hebrews 9:11-14). And you can be certain that Jesus authored this new one-of-a-kind “covenant with blood” (12:24), as well as being its finisher.

This means nothing less than that he has made all things new in our lives. We were not created to live under any old set of rules or regulations; instead, we are now partakers in His grace and mercy—the very same grace and mercy He offered us while on earth during those three years before His death!

    7. Hebrews 3:9

Hebrews 3:9 says, “But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”

Jesus’ death secured eternal redemption. This means that no matter what happens in this life or any other world we may go to after this life ends; Jesus’ sacrifice will never be undone or changed because it was done in heaven by someone who is already there—God Himself!

    8. Hebrews 3:10-11

In this passage, the writer of Hebrews encourages us to not be afraid of those who can destroy our bodies but are unable to destroy our souls. Our faith in Jesus is stronger than anything that can come against us. He is the author and finisher of our faith! We have a covenant with God through Jesus, which means he will never leave us or forsake us. In fact, you might say that he is our mediator—always there for us as we turn to him in times of trouble! This passage also highlights how important it is that we have a high priest who understands what we’re going through in life because he has been tempted just like we are (Hebrews 4:15).

This was written by an anonymous theologian during Biblical times to encourage others about their faith in Christ at a time when persecution was common for Christians around the world due mainly because they believed differently from most other people at that time period which led many governments around such areas as Rome as well as other countries like China where Buddhism was popular back then too . . .

    9. Fix our eyes on Jesus.

The object of our faith in Jesus, who is our high priest, mediator, salvation, righteousness, and peace. Hebrews 3:6 states “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things that are already here” (NIV).

Jesus’ role as High Priest was to show us how to do what He did in order for us to be saved from sin. When we see the example that Jesus has set for us, we realize that we can do it too because He does not leave His people alone or abandoned in their struggle with sin but rather He comes alongside them and helps them overcome their struggles by giving them access into His presence through prayer where they can receive strength from Him as they seek forgiveness from God.

Hebrews 4:15 says “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are yet without sinning…”

Jesus also acted as a mediator between God and man during His humanity on earth; this means that He was able to bring us closer to God through His perfect life so that now we have an opportunity to live eternally with Him! The goal of this verse was not only meant for those who lived during Christ’s lifetime (1st century Jewish) but also applies today when anyone reads this letter written over 2000 years ago!!

    Closing

We’re called to fix our eyes on Jesus, and we should not look back. He has given us everything we need to live a life that is pleasing to God: righteousness, peace with God through Christ, and eternal salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
