Dr David Jeremiah Daily Devotional April 18 2022 : Grace and Mercy

Dr David Jeremiah Daily Devotional April 18 2022 :

The Lord is . . . longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
    2 Peter 3:9

Think about the wars, acts of terror, onslaughts of savagery against innocent people, government-sponsored acts of genocide throughout history—it’s almost more than our sensibilities can bear when we consider how humanity has broken the heart of God over millennia. And we have to include our own failures to glorify God in thought, word, and deed. And yet God is “longsuffering toward [humanity], not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

In spite of how we have offended God, He still reaches out to us. He still desires that none should perish in their sins but that all might repent and come to Him. How is such a desire possible? It is because of His mercy and grace—the expressions of His love. Four of the New Testament epistles begin with the greeting, “Grace, mercy, and peace from God.” His grace blesses us; His mercy spares us from judgment; His peace reconciles us to Himself.

Thank God today for His mercy and grace by which you have peace with Him.

Peace of conscience is nothing but the echo of pardoning mercy.
    William Gurnall.
