    Bible Reading for today

     Numbers 7

1 On the day that Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it and all its furnishings. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of the ancestral houses who were the tribal leaders in charge of the registration, brought their offerings. 2 They presented their offerings before the Lord, six covered wagons and twelve oxen—an ox from each leader and a wagon from every two. These they presented before the tabernacle.

3 The Lord said to Moses, 4 “Accept these from them, that they may be used in the work at the tent of meeting. Give them to the Levites as each man’s work requires.” 5 So Moses took the wagons and oxen and gave them to the Levites. 6 He gave two wagons and four oxen to the Gershonites, as their work required, 7 and he gave four wagons and eight oxen to the Merarites, as their work required. They were all under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron, the priest. 8 But Moses did not give any to the Kohathites, because they were to carry on their shoulders the holy things, for which they were responsible.

9 When the leaders of Israel made their offerings, the twelve leaders each brought a silver plate weighing about thirteen and a third pounds, a silver basin weighing about seven and a half pounds, 10 and a gold bowl weighing about four ounces, all according to the sanctuary shekel. All the silver and gold articles together weighed about sixty-six pounds. 11 Each leader also presented an offering for the dedication of the altar. They brought twelve bulls, twelve rams, and twelve lambs, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings.

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, 13 “Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used to make atonement for the people of Israel.” So Moses accepted the gifts and stored them beside the altar.

14 The leaders presented the bulls as a sin offering to make atonement for themselves and for the people of Israel. 15 The twelve leaders each presented a bull as a burnt offering to the Lord; and they presented the grain offering and the drink offering with the bull. 16 Then Moses presented the bulls before the Lord as a purification offering, one for each leader.

17 The Lord said to Moses, 18 “Accept these from them and use them to make atonement for the people. You will need one bull for each leader, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.”
