Kathryn Kuhlman was born on the 9th of May, 1907, in Johnson County, Missouri, U.S., to German-American parents Joseph Adolph Kuhlman and Emma Walkenhorst. She started preaching with her elder sister and brother-in-law in Idaho State after turning 14. After that, Kathryn Kuhlman was ordained by the Evangelical Church Alliance.
Kathryn Kuhlman met her future husband, Burroughs Waltrip when he started a revival center known as “Radio Chapel.” Despite the divorce of Waltrip and his wife and the advice from Kathryn’s friends against the marriage, Kathryn Kuhlman secretly married the Texas evangelist on the 18th of October, 1938. But this union didn’t last as there were issues concerning childbirth, and Kathryn felt guilty for Waltrip’s past marriage. Kuhlman parted ways with her husband in 1948 after he filed for a divorce.
