THEME: Fruit Of The Spirit: Meekness (II)
SCRIPTURE: “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” – Matthew 5:5
It is necessary to emphasise that meekness is-a-must for every believer who really desires to live a happy life with a conscience devoid of regrets, unnecessary guilt and pains.
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, exemplified the lifestyle of meekness. He was molested, abused, beaten, battered, mocked, betrayed and despised, yet He never reacted negatively or embittered against anyone. He only willingly submitted Himself to the totality of God’s will for Him. There was even a time some of His disciples suggested they should call down fire like Elijah did but Jesus reproved them (Luke 9: 51-56). Peter also tried resisting the arrest of Jesus by engaging a physical weapon, this Jesus also denounced. What an unparalleled display of meekness. Jesus said He could ask the Father to send Him more than twelve legions of angels but how would the Scripture be fulfilled? (Matthew 26:51-52)
Meekness therefore entails surrendering to the will of God whether it looks pleasant or otherwise. Are you a Christian who cheerfully surrenders to God’s will or do you murmur, grumble and whine? If you are a meek believer, you will not be striving with the Spirit of God in you and you will not also be complaining at any discomfort that may come your way, either minor or major. Meekness will also banish every iota of retaliatory spirit out of your life.
The passionate plea of the Lord Jesus Christ to all of His disciples, according to our Fire Scripture of today is to incorporate meekness as part of our inner beauty. Meekness in a life adds the ornaments of peace and grace to the believer. Meekness was one of the indices of the impeccable life of Jesus Christ.
Beloved, without being genuinely born again, sanctified and Holy Spirit filled, there is no way you can cultivate the fruit of meekness. And without meekness, your life will continue to misrepresent Jesus Christ and bringing reproach to the name of God.
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
- My life, reject pollution, in the name of Jesus.
- My life, reject spiritual failure, in the name of Jesus.
- I plug my life into the socket of God’s fire, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
- Arrows of iniquity fired against my life, backfire, in the name of Jesus.
- Powers assigned to amputate my life, die by fire, in the name of Jesus.
- Spirit of meekness, saturate my life, in the name of Jesus.
- Power of the Most High, envelop my spirit, soul and body, in the name of Jesus.
