Sickness is a common occurrence in the world of animals. As a veterinarian, I have seen and treated many sick pets that have come through my clinic doors. Sickness is also something that should never be taken lightly because it could lead to serious health problems if not detected early on or treated promptly. That is why it is important for pet owners to know how to recognize when their pet may be sick as well as what steps can be taken for treatment purposes.
Powerful Prayers For Sick Animals
1. Psalm 147:3
In this psalm, we can see the wonders of God in all places. He is present in the sky and earth, in oceans and skies. He shows his power through creation but also by saving his people from their enemies.
These are powerful prayers for sick animals because they remind us that God’s love is everywhere: In every corner of our world, he has shown himself to be worthy of our trust and praise!
Psalm 147:3 says “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This verse could easily be read as an invitation for us to pray for healing in these areas where we feel broken or wounded—whether it’s a sick animal or ourselves or someone else who needs healing (or some combination).
2. 1 Kings 17:19
1 Kings 17:19
“But Elijah said to the woman, “Please, cook a small cake for me from this flour, and then make some bread using only this oil and put it on the bread; then give it to me to eat.”
The text here shows us that Elijah was not given any food by the widow’s son. In fact, he did not even speak directly with him when he arrived at her house. Instead, after being invited inside her home by the widow herself (the mother), she told him of her son’s death due to hunger and thirst while they continued their journey away from Israel (1 Kings 17:1-2). Immediately after hearing this news about her dead child, Elijah asked if there were anything left in her house that could be used for food or drink—and if so how much would be needed?
3. 2 Chronicles 16: 9
- 2 Chronicles 16:9: “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”
- Psalm 103:2-4: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases…”
- James 5:13-16: “Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church … anointing with oil in his name.”
4. 2 Timothy 4: 20
2 Timothy 4: 20 says, “In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.”
This verse tells us that we should preach the word at all times. We need to keep in mind that God will reward us for our efforts. This means that if you are going through a hard time with your sick pet or animal friend, pray for them as much as possible. You can also ask someone else to do it on your behalf if you do not have time or energy enough to do so yourself!
5. Jeremiah 29: 11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
6. Psalm 34: 17-18
Lord, You hear the cry of the afflicted. You are close to all who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit.
You redeem the lives of Your servants from distress and from those who make them wander. You preserve the simple through their confusion; save them from darkness, for they have trusted in You.
Many people love You because you keep all Your promises to them, especially those promises that protect them from harm!
7. Psalm 36: 7
Psalm 36:7: “How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”
This verse is a great example of how we can express our love for our pets. We can pray for them to be able to rest in the peace and comfort that God gives us, who knows what they are going through physically and mentally when they are sick or scared. This will also show them that we have faith in God’s unfailing love, as well as ours for them.
8. Numbers 6: 24-26
24 The LORD bless you and keep you;
25 The LORD make his face shine upon you,
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon you,
27 The LORD give you peace.
9. Isaiah 41:10
This verse from Isaiah 41 is a powerful one, and it applies to sick animals just as much as it does to people. In the midst of your animal’s illness, you may feel like there are no solutions in sight. You might even fear that your pet won’t survive their illness. This scripture reminds you that God has not abandoned His plan for your animal, and He will give him the strength to make it through this difficult time.
In fact, according to this verse from Isaiah 41:10 (NIV), God will give you strength when you need it most: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God…I will strengthen you…I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
God gives us strength when we need it most—and this is especially true during times of sickness or suffering!

Whether the animal is in your life or not, there are important things to consider when praying for them. When you think about what is going on in the animal’s life right now and what they need from you, it helps you pray effectively. Praying is just like any other form of communication; you must be able to listen and respond appropriately if you want your prayers to be effective.
